What battery storage actually does for an industrial site

“Battery storage” gets used as a catch-all term. On an industrial site it usually does one or more of three specific jobs.
1. Peak shaving
The system discharges during your demand spikes and recharges when load is low. Nothing about your process changes: the battery absorbs the peak instead of the grid connection.
2. Ride-through
Not a whole-site backup generator, but a targeted bridge for the loads that actually matter during an outage: controls, refrigeration, a line that can't tolerate an unplanned stop.
3. Solar time-shift
Solar makes power at noon; a lot of industrial load is evening and night shift. Storage holds that midday generation and releases it when the site is actually drawing power.
Which mix applies, and whether it pays back, comes out of the load data and the tariff, not a brochure. That's the first output of a feasibility study, before any equipment gets specified.
